The paper reports an experimental study on the behaviour of a jet flame which is surrounded by a shroud of combustion air. Measurements focussed on the flame length, NOx and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. Combustion projuct gases wre analysed by the use of the diode laser absorption tehcnique using a tunable lead-salt laser and flame lengths obtained from high speed digital video records. In some test the tracks of combustable particles were tracked and analsysed.

The paper includes embeded video clips of representative flame behaviour.
