Generalized Lorenz-Mie
theory for cylinders is a new tool in light scattering theory. It describes
the interaction between an infinite cylinder and an illuminating arbitrary
shaped beam. In the present paper the applicability of this theory to the
evaluation of phase-Doppler instruments for cylindrical particle characterization
is demonstrated, exemplifying the particular case when the cylinder is perpendicular
to the impinging laser beams.
